The Longobards among churches, bell towers and castles

Itinerary among the ancient remains of the Longobard reign.

The Longobards, a community coming from Scandinavia in the Fifth Century, dominated all Italy from the Alps to the Puglia Region for about three centuries. The Longobards completely integrated with local population, converted to Christianity and founded many churches and monasteries. Maybe it is not known that until the Fifth Century the churches did not have Bellowers: they were invented by the Longobards!

Day one: arrival in Brescia, welcome drink and accommodation in hotel. In the afternoon guided visit of the Santa Giulia City Museum (UNESCO
site), in a monastery complex founded in the Eighth Century by the last Longobard King Desiderio and his wife Ansa. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day two: after breakfast, visit Montichiari. Little town in Brescia province, not far from Lake Garda. The group will visit the Bergomi Museum, with more than 3000 finds coming from the agricultural areas around Brescia and the Alps valleys, and the Bonoris Castle, built in the Nineteenth Century in medieval style. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day three: after breakfast, excursion to Padernello in order to visit the charming medieval Castle. In the afternoon visit and wine tasting at a Cellar associated to the Wine Road Longobard Hills. Dinner and overnight in hotel.

Day four: excursion to Sirmione, Lake Garda, visit the historical centre and the ancient church San Pietro in Mavino, the most ancient church on the lake, founded in the Longobard Age.
